What is the Islamic New Year?
When Is The Islamic New Year?
The Islamic New Year does not fall on the same day every year. This is because Muslims follow the lunar calendar rather than the gregorian calendar. The lunar calendar is about 11 days shorter than the gregorian. This causes a shift to where the Islamic New Year changes the day it is celebrated each year. The next Islamic New Year will be celebrated on July 29, 2022.
How is It Celebrated?
Shia
Shia Muslims observe the new year through mourning. Shia Muslims take time to mourn the death of Hussein, Muhammad's grandson, who was murdered. |
